For Valentines Day I have teamed up with other bloggers in the 2019 Good Cookie Food Bloggers Valentines Event to benefit Cookies 4 Kids

This is the third year for our Valentine’s event! We want to make a difference in the fight against pediatric cancer!

Did you know that cancer is the #1 cause of death of children by disease in the U.S.? There are 40,000 U.S. children actively battling cancer right now.

With less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute's budget going to all childhood cancer combined, I knew it was important for me to get involved.

Help us make a difference by donating to Cookies for Kids' Cancer! Our goal is to raise at least $3000.

Because these three companies: Dixie Crystals, Mediavine and OXO have each pledged to match our donations raised through this campaign up to $3000!

Big shout out and Thank You to Dixie Crystals for sending my a case of sugar for participating in this Cookie 4 Kids Valentines Event.

A big Thank You to OXO for sending me an awesome Cookie Sheet, Cookie Scoop and Silicone Mat these gifts are appreciated and will come in handy with my future blog posts!!!

The cookie I choose to make for this years event was an Iced Sugar Cookie with Sprinkles.  This sugar cookie recipe is a Cutout Cookie Recipe.  Instead of rolling out the dough and having to use cookie cutters to cut all the cookies, I rolled the dough into a log, then rolled the log in sprinkles.

I put my dough log into the freezer for about an hour that way it was easier to slice.  I started to slice the dough with a knife but found it easier to use dental floss to get the perfect slices.

After the cookies were baked I found that the sprinkles on the edges had gone to the bottom of the cookie so instead of icing the top of the cookie I turned them over and iced the bottoms :)

By icing the bottoms the sprinkles made a pretty ring around the outside of the icing.

I added a small box of  Black Cherry Jello to my cookies hoping to get a Cherry Almond flavor however I do not think nor did Cally and Bill that they tasted like Cherry.

I would probably just skip the jello next time.

Yield: 5 dozen

Iced Sugar Cookies with Sprinkles

ingredients:

Cookies
  • 1 cup sour cream
  •  2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons almond
  • 6 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 small box black cherry jello
Buttercream Icing
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons almond

instructions:

Cookies
  1. Combine sour cream, sugar, jello, butter, eggs, vanilla and almond.  Beat for amount 2 minutes.
  2. Add Dry ingredients and mix well.  Chill dough for about 25 minutes to make it easier to roll in the sprinkles.
  3. After chilling, roll dough into a log.  Place sprinkles in a large ziplock bag.  Put dough log into the ziplock bag and roll around to get all the outside covered with sprinkles.
  4. Place the log into the freezer for about  45 minutes to make it easier to slice the dough.   Once firm, slice the dough and place on parchment covered cookie sheets
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes  (mine took 8)
  6. Cool cookies completely before icing.
Buttercream Icing
  1. Place butter and 1 cup of powder sugar into mixing bowl.  Start mixing and gradually add the remaining powder sugar alternately with the whipping cream and almond flavoring.
  2. Once icing is all mixed you can ice the cookies with a knife or if you want to pipe your icing on the cookies like mine I used Wilton 1M tip
