Happy Valentines Day!  Does anyone else have a problem coming up with a gift for your sweetie?

The longer we are married the harder it is for me to think of a gift for Bill and I think it is the same the other way around ... we are both hard to buy for because if there is something we are wanting then we just seem to go buy it :)

This Valentines Day was no exception.  He is on call this weekend so while he was away on a call, I came across these Chocolate Chip Cookies on my Facebook page.

I decided this would be the perfect gift, he was away so I could surprise him with Chocolate Chip Cookies when he returned home.  It was the perfect solution as Bill's favorite Cookie is Chocolate Chip.

What caught my attention to these particular Chocolate Chip Cookies was the video.  In the video Kaleb mentions his unusual ingredients... hmmm, I thought what could that be that is unusual in a Chocolate Chip Cookie??  Well, I was surprised!

There are 4 differences that stood out to me...

1. using half all purpose flour and half bread flour

2. the addition of Molasses

3. the addition of Malted Milk Powder

4. using half milk chocolate chips and half semisweet chocolate chips

The most intriguing part to me was the addition of Molasses... I was just baffled at how this was going to taste because I think of Molasses as Ginger Snaps.  Oh this is a special secret ingredients for sure... I am guessing it works with the brown sugar to make these cookies soft and chewy and oh so good!  They are addicting for sure 💗

I did make a few adjustments from the original recipe.  I cut it down by 1/3 on most of the ingredients and I also did not refrigerate my dough as the recipe states to do.  My cookies do look a little thinner than his do and that could be because my dough was more room temp and not cold.

Either way they were a hit and Bill loved them... made a nice treat because he got called back out for a call to Cleveland at 1:30am so he grabbed some cookies for his road trip.

The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie

adapted from Kaleb's recipe on Wyseguide.com

1 cup salted butter
1 cup white granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 Tablespoon Vanilla
1 Tablespoon Molasses
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/3 cups bread flour
2 Tablespoons Malted Milk Powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
1 cup milk chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Cream together the butter and sugars until smooth.

Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the eggs and beat until incorporated.

Add in the Vanilla and Molasses and mix until incorporated.

To the mixture add the flours, malted milk powder, salt and baking soda and mix until combined

Mix in the chocolate chips

Scoop cookie dough onto parchment covered baking sheets.  Bake for 11-12 minutes.  My cookies were really soft out of the oven so I cooled them on the baking sheets for 5-10 minutes before moving them to the cooling racks.
