Who needs biscuits when you can put Gravy on Beer Bread :)

I love Beer Bread and it reminds me of a warm biscuit all lathered up with butter and jelly so I thought why not try Beer Bread covered with Sausage Gravy and oh boy am I glad I did.  I will not eat Sausage Gravy any other way from now on.

Eating breakfast for supper is one of our favorite meals and this was a super easy meal to make.  I like using Jimmy Dean Fully Cooked Turkey Sausage Crumbles.  With the sausage crumbles being fully cooked it saves time not having to brown the sausage. This makes for a super fast and easy meal.

We like our Beer Bread fresh out of the oven but you can always make it ahead of time and warm the bread up before serving.  I like to mix my bread up and get it into the oven and while it is baking make my gravy.

Beer Bread (small loaf pan 7.75x3.75x2.5 inches)

1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 Tablespoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 ounces beer
2 Tablespoons melted butter

Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Melt butter and pour some inside the loaf pan and up the sides.  The remaining butter will be drizzled over the top of the batter before baking.

Stir together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder and salt)

Pour in beer and mix until combined

Pour batter into buttered load pan and drizzle the remaining butter over top of the batter.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in top comes out clean.

This recipe is for a small loaf pan.  If using a regular size loaf pan, double the recipe.

Sausage Gravy

9.6 ounce Jimmie Dean Sausage crumbles
1/3 cup flour
3-4 cups half and half
1-2 teaspoons pepper to taste

Put sausage crumbles in skillet over medium heat.  Sprinkle half of the flour over the sausage and stir so that the sausage soaks up the flour.  Add the remaining flour little by little stirring so that the flour coats the sausage.  Pour in the half and half, and stir constantly.

Stir the gravy cooking constantly until it thickens.  Sprinkle in the pepper and continue to cook until the desired thickness is obtained.

If it gets too thick stir in a little extra half and half.  If the gravy is not getting thick enough, add a little cornstarch mixed with a little half and half to the gravy and continue to stir until gravy thickens up.
