 Peep Treats

Rice Krispie Peep Treats are super easy to make and fun to eat.  They are not as colorful as I thought they would be but the pastel speckles sure are pretty for an Easter treat.

I did the layered method and put them in the oven to get all melted and gooey before I stirred them together.  I did see a Kellogg’s recipe where they melted them on the stove before adding the Rice Krispies and theirs had a lot more color.  Maybe I stirred mine too much but they did taste good anyways.

Peep Treats

48 assorted colored Peeps
12 ounce box of crispy rice cereal (I used Kroger’s brand)
10 tablespoons butter cut into patties
1 cup mini marshmallows

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.  I used a throw away pan and then transferred them to my good 9x13 pan once they were all mixed up.

Layer half of the peeps in the bottom of the prepared pan.  Put 4 cups rice crispy cereal over the peeps.  Arrange the second half of the peeps on top of the rice crispy cereal.  Place pats of butter on top of the peeps.  I put a loose layer of foil overtop of mine (well after I realized they were smoking in my oven)

Bake in oven for 10 minutes or until peeps are melted enough to stir.  I stirred up the mixture until all the cereal was wet, I then added the rest of the rice crispy cereal to the pan and continued mixing until it was all combined.  Next take your good 9x13 pan that was also sprayed with cooking spray and put the treats into the pan.  Sprinkle the mini marshmallows on top and press them down a little bit into the treats.  Put the pan back in the oven just for a few minutes so that the mini marshmallow get gooey. After taking pan out of the oven, take a spatula and mash down the treats so that they will be a firm bar when cooled.
