I have been on an oatmeal kick for breakfast lately.  I have always just bought the flavored instant oatmeal packs.

I did not realize until I read the back of the oatmeal package that I could just microwave old fashion oats with some water.  I thought old fashion oats had to be cooked on the stove.  I have also been playing around with different flavors.  A few weeks ago I made the S'mores oatmeal, this week I also made Cinnamon Roll Oatmeal.

Just think of flavors you like and start adding them to your oatmeal.  Some ingredients I put in the bowl before I microwave the oats and others I add in after they are cooked.  I also have been pouring a little bit of different flavored creamers over top of my oatmeal.  So far my favorite creamer flavor has been Pumpkin Pie Spice.  So get your thinking caps on and cook you up some flavored oatmeal!

Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal with Pecans

1/2 cup Old Fashion Oats
1 cup water
dash of salt
1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 teaspoons pecans, chopped
1 tablespoon brown sugar

to cooked oatmeal add:
1 tablespoon brown sugar
maple syrup
pecans, chopped

Put old fashion oats, water and 1 tablespoon maple syrup in a microwaveable bowl.  Microwave on high for 3 minutes.  Let oatmeal rest for about 2 minutes to thicken up.  Pour oatmeal into serving bowl, stir in the brown sugar and if desired drizzle with additional maple syrup and chopped pecans.
